Fact 4: the Handelslei is the village artery

A ribbon village with a high street

Like many Campine villages, Sint-Job grew linearly along the main road. Shops and catering moved to the street side, with houses behind them. The result: one long axis where you can complete your entire shopping list on foot.

From Pitstop to San's Place

At number 22, Pitstop was a fixture for years for those wanting a quick sandwich. We took over that spot as San's Place and added a dining area and a sunny terrace, with high tables, parasols and flower boxes.

The loyal customers of Pitstop can therefore still find their sandwich on the same corner — with an updated menu and the same early opening hours.

Local still works

What makes the Handelslei strong is the mix: you buy your bread, your meat and your sandwich within the same hundred metres. Anyone who wants to know which traders and markets the municipality supports should check with Brecht itself.
